- Applicants must have a genuine interest in seeking employment in the maritime industry

- Applicants must undertake an ENG11 medical, or a GPs fitness certificate
- Applicants must supply their own non-slip steel-cap boots or shoes
- All applicants will be required to attend an interview
- An offer of a place on this course means the applicant has met the minimum entry requirements set out and attended for interview

The course, which was established in 2021, is now a proven path-way for people interested in seeking employment in the maritime industry. The intensive 14-week course is based in Poolbeg Yacht Club, utilising the extensive resources and equipment available ashore and afloat. Over 70% of former students who have successfully completed the course are now employed.

Module 2: Powerboat Level 1 Syllabus
Module 3: Tides, and How They Work:
Tides and their impact on all aspects of boating. How to read a tide book, different types of tides.
Module 4: Powerboat Level 2 Syllabus
Module 5: Weather:
Forecasts, Isobars, Meteorological terms, Clouds, Cyclonic and anti-cyclonic weather, Warnings, Coastal reports, Buoys, Beauford scale, Wind & Wave influences, Moon Phases
Module 6: Navigation Syllabus:
Admiralty charts, Compass Rose, Anchorage and Ground, tidal streams, aids to navigation, tides, Lat / Long positioning, measuring distance, landmarks, passage plan
Module 7: VHF Syllabus:
GMDSS & Voice Procedure, Urgent and Safety Messages, Distress Message, DSC Operation, EPIRBs and SARTs, Antennas and Batteries
